About River Rock Homeschool

River Rock Homeschool is an independent resource that helps homeschooling families choose and use math curricula. This page explains who we are and how our reviews are made.

Our story

River Rock Homeschool started at our own dining table. Teaching three very different children, we bought — and abandoned — more math programs than we’d like to admit. Somewhere around the fourth curriculum, we started keeping detailed notes on what worked and why. Other homeschooling parents kept asking for those notes, and the blog grew from there.

Our mission

Our mission is to save homeschooling families the expensive trial-and-error we went through, by reviewing math curricula honestly and in plain language, and matching programs to the children who’ll actually thrive with them.

Editorial standards

  • Hands-on. We review programs we have actually used or studied closely, not just marketing pages.
  • Balanced. Every program has trade-offs; we name the weaknesses as well as the strengths.
  • Independent. Reviews are not for sale, and no publisher gets a better verdict for a fee.

How our content is reviewed

Each article is drafted after real use of a curriculum, checked for fairness and accuracy, and updated when programs release new editions or when readers share their own experiences. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
