Greetings River Rock parents and kids!
I’m very happy to announce that I will be taking on the role of director for the After School Program at the River Rock School this year. I have been committed to the youth of Montpelier over the last 10 years as a community based artist, a programming coordinator for the Kellogg Hubbard Library, and as an owner/artist-in-residence of the Langdon Street Cafe (an all ages venue which closed in 2010).
Many kids in town know me from my work at the Kellogg Hubbard Library, through programs such as the Dark Knight Comics Club or Games Unplugged. These programs have been very successful and I am very excited to bring these initiatives to River Rock. Last years gaming group had a blast playing a Lego role playing game that I invented called Bricktown Detectives.
I’m also the founder of the Cardboard Teck Instantute, a think tank of recycled ingenuity that has produced dozens of performances, arcade machines, large scale robots and puppets, functional apparati, modular furniture, and oracular contraptions. I can’t wait to see what we can build together!
The After School Program at River Rock will also be an opportunity for all of us to explore activities like baking, science experiments, and field trips. Over the last year I’ve made a great connection at ORCA Media, so I would like to perhaps introduce video production to the group. If any parents have any ideas as to what I should introduce to the group, I’m open to anything.
You may also be interested to know that I am currently a graduate student at Goddard College, looking to complete my degree in Interdisciplinary Arts in February of 2016. As a teaching artist, I am constantly engaged in dialogue about progressive education and best practices models in the classroom. An engagement in the arts is essential to the wellroundedness in students and society as a whole. In my graduate work, I will be engaged in deep reflection on the effectiveness of my own work, the projects that I initiate, and the feedback from the students and teachers.
If you have any ideas, questions, or concerns, please feel free to reach out. I’m looking forward to providing an enriching and fun after school experience this year.
